Description of X-ray Protective Lead Glass

X-ray protective lead glass is produced by adding lead oxide to ordinary glass, resulting in a transparent glass with a pale yellow or light brownish color. It is thicker than ordinary glass, but feels much denser. It is available in thicknesses of 8, 10, 12, 15, and 20 mm, and can be as large as 2400 mm by 1200 mm. It can be further refined to slot through doors or observer windows with a tolerance of ±1 mm, with edges rounded slightly to minimize the risk of scratching glass surfaces.

Every piece of glass is inspected with a laser thickness gauge before shipment to ensure a lead equivalent of 0.3 mmpb to 2.0 mmpb. The glass surface is finely ground and polished, maintaining a light transmittance of over 85%, ensuring a clear view even from behind. The packaging is first tightly wrapped with plastic film and then placed in a thickened wooden box with foam padding to prevent movement during transport.

Features of X-ray Protective Lead Glass

High lead content: Density 4.2–4.8 g/cm³, lead equivalent 0.5–4.0 mmPb, customizable thickness available

High light transmittance: Transmittance of visible light ≥ 85% conclusively provides clear and undistorted viewing.

Impact resistance: Multi-layer composite structured impact and shatter-resistant.

Easy processing: Strippable frame leads to cut, edge, and perforated processing.

Durable: Long-lasting fog-free surface, moisture-resistant, acid and alkali resistant, clean-surface, and easy to clean.

Applications of X-ray Protective Lead Glass

Medical: Observation windows and protective door windows in hospital X-ray rooms, CT/DR rooms, and operating rooms.

Nuclear Medicine: Shielded windows in PET, ECT, and linear accelerator control rooms.

Industrial: Observation windows in industrial flaw detection, nondestructive testing equipment, and nuclear power plant control rooms.

Scientific Research: Observation windows in laboratory radioactive source storage and synchrotron radiation stations.

Security: Windows for baggage security screening machines at airports, customs, and train stations.
