Description of Radiology Lead Glass Observation Window

The radiology lead glass observation window is a seemingly ordinary piece of clear glass, yet it's substantial. Available in thicknesses from 8 mm to 20 mm, it can be customized to fit door or wall openings, up to 2.4 m x 1.2 m. Lead oxide is evenly integrated into the glass, giving it a pale yellowish color, resembling light brown sunglasses. Its light transmittance remains above 85%, allowing for clear visibility of indoor operations from behind without any graying or distortion.

Each piece is laser-measured before shipment, and the lead equivalent is printed directly on the label, ranging from 0.5 mmpb to 2.0 mmpb. A higher value indicates greater protection, allowing customers to select the correct specification at a glance. CNC grinders have smoothed over the edges so that they won't cause any scratches to the installer. The frame surrounding the glass can be made of either stainless steel or aluminum alloy, both of which have screw holes made and ready. No special tools are required for the on-site fastening beyond simple tightening and alignment.

Transporting glass pieces over long distances is made easier and safer due to the glass pieces being first wrapped in plastic film and then boxed into a wooden crate reinforced with foam at the corners. Fogged glass pieces will only need the film to be removed, and after that, they are good to go for installation. During cleaning, glass pieces should be dry and away from harsh chemicals such as acids and alkalis to maintain long-term transparency without fogging. In summary, the glass blocks X-rays and only unobstructed views are allowed for the doctors. Once installed, the reliability is remarkable for many years.

Features of Radiology Lead Glass Observation Window

High lead equivalent: 5–20 mm mask thickness gives 0.5–3.2 mm Pb shielding, which exceeds that of ordinary glass.

High light transmittance: Light transmittance of ≥ 85% has been achieved because polishing both sides results in distortion-free imaging.

Adaptable to fittings: Fitted with lead-lined frames or aluminum and steel profiles, it can be cut, chamfered, drilled, and tailored to slots or clear openings.

Safe and durable: Has impact, moisture, acid, and alkali resistance. It can be made fireproof or constructed into laminated units, which extend the service life to over a decade.

Applications of Radiology Lead Glass Observation Window

Medical: Control room windows for X-ray rooms, CT, DSA, PET, mammography, and panoramic dental imaging systems.

Nuclear medicine: Shielded windows for gamma cameras, radiotherapy rooms, and radionuclide dispensing hot cells.

Scientific research: Synchrotron radiation beamlines, laboratory radiation source operation areas, and accelerator control rooms.

Industrial: Industrial flaw detection, nondestructive testing (NDT) equipment, and nuclear power plant control rooms.

Security: Baggage scanner windows at airports and customs.
