Description of F-18 Tungsten Syringe Shield

The F-18 Tungsten Syringe Shield greatly reduces hand contact with syringes containing 511 keV radionuclide. The 6.2-density lead glass window provides additional shielding while allowing the contents of the syringe to be viewed without distortion. Syringe shielding with or without high-density embedded lead glass windows for protection and visibility. The white reflective surface inside the shield improves the marking of the syringe and the observation of the liquid content. The F-18 Tungsten Syringe Shield has a unique flanging locking mechanism to speed up the loading and unloading of the syringe, further reducing hand contact.

Features of F-18 Tungsten Syringe Shield

The F-18F Tungsten Syringe Shield is formed from densest tungsten alloy (≥90% W) with a lead equivalence of 8 mmPb for gamma attenuation. Its intrinsic density is accompanied by non-magnetic properties and zero lead-dust generation. A 10 mm thick lead glass viewing window achieves a greater-than-90% dose reduction at 511 keV, protecting personnel during syringe manipulations. Shield configurations include a seam-free flip-top for swift access or a threaded lid for secure transport. The cavity accepts 1 mL, 3 mL, or 5 mL syringes, allowing for shielded direct injections at the clinical station. An electromarked and polished surface promotes efficient decontamination and ensures enduring resistance to alkaline and acidic corrosion.

Applications of F-18 Tungsten Syringe Shield

PET centers, nuclear medicine departments, and radiopharmaceutical production workshops provide immediate shielding for technicians, nurses, and transport personnel during the packaging, transportation, and bedside injection of high-energy positron-emitting drugs such as 18F-FDG.
