A gamma detector refers to a device that records gamma radiation by the use of inorganic scintillators, and is especially useful in neutron-gamma discrimination systems that resolve and reduce overlapping signals from neutrons in the energy spectrum.
A detector of gamma rays records electromagnetic radiation by counting the photons emitted from a given element and measuring the energy of each photon. The energy of the measured gamma ray indicates the element and isotope, and the number of counts indicates how plentiful the radioactive source is.
